Dreaming of Spring...

Here is the finished painting. I really like the way it came out. Feels very happy and springy! Spring can't get here a day too soon! I am so tired of seeing all this white stuff... and not too happy about the cold either! Might have to move south when we retire!

sick of snow... painting spring!

We have really been getting our share of snow this year, and I am already sick and tired of it. Rather than let the winter blues get me down, I'm closing the blinds and painting spring! I had done a watercolor some time ago of birch trees in the fall that I sold, so I thought I would try my hand at doing an acrylic painting on gallery wrapped canvas of some Spring Birch Trees. This is the progress I have made so far, next steps will be to paint in the knots, lines and branches of the trees... then some lovely green leaves at the top, and some pretty purple and yellow at the bottom...

In other news, I am getting ready to do another art show/sale. I'm really excited about this one, there will be 45 fine artists at this event. It is on February 9th in Elkhart Indiana. I am going to have to pull the artwork I have at the restaurant out of there... I don't think it is selling anyway, so would be better to take it somewhere where people are looking to buy art. Hopefully the snow will stop, and people will want to go to the event to get out of the house. There will be a food vendor, entertainment and even a children's book author who will be doing readings and signing her books... beer for those that like to indulge in that sort of thing, I'm more of a wine-sipper myself. :)

Update: here is the painting after my session with it this evening. Tomorrow will bring leaves, grass and late spring flowers. I like the way it is coming along. :)

Finished abstract painting

Bottom to top is work in progress,  with completed painting at the top. My cell phone has a mind of it's own as far as color goes. The top painting I took with my camera, and it's much more true to color.

Rosamond Prints

I was thinking today of my teenage-bedroom, when I still lived with my Mom, and I remembered the prints that used to hang on my walls. I could remember the faces of women, and the way they were painted, but I couldn't remember the name of the artist. Last night, I had a dream about them, and I remembered that they were by Rosamond. I did a search on the internet and found them and read about the artist! These are the prints that hung on my walls. I remember spending hours looking at them as I listened to music or hung out in my room.

My favorite was "Denim and Silk", and "Simone" reminded me of my Mom. "Blue Ice" was nice, but I really didn't relate to it... it was just the third print in the room. It was really interesting to read about the artist and her life. www.rosamond.com. It's so sad that she died so young. I wonder if these prints are out in our spare garage... I will have to look when the snow has melted and I can get in there.

Abstract Flowers - "The flower box" Finished.

Here is the finished painting. I had fun with this. I think I will do some more flower arrangement paintings. I like the looseness of this.

Abstract Flower Box Painting

I watched a video on youtube where an artist painted a flower arrangement in less than an hour. I thought I would give it a try. I spent about an hour on this in two sessions, and I am not quite happy with it yet, but it is coming along.. I'm going to add a little more color to the flowers and work more with the flower-box, the leaves need some more work too... heck, I'm just not done with it yet. :) The photos above show first and second session progress. The color on the first photo is a little more realistic to the painting, I took the second photo with my phone, and it's a little too vivid.

Edit, the bottom photo was taken after I made some changes tonight, I see a few things I am going to change after the paint dries. Getting closer to what I wanted.

Jan's Painting is finally finished!

I finally finished Jan's Painting this morning. I've spent several hours working on it this month. I am happy with the way it came out. I hope she likes it. I don't think she will hang it until the spring when she takes down her winter decorations, but when she does, I will take photos to show you.

Artwork Hung at Jay's Plate in Mishawaka, Indiana

Big thanks to my hubby Jeff and friend Lela Crawford for helping me to hang my art at Jay's Plate in Mishawaka, Indiana today. Jay gave me an entire wall to hang my art on. All art is for sale and can be purchased there. The exciting thing for me was to actually see the art hung on the wall! It looks so cool!
