Starting New

My old blog is acting up, so I am starting new today. I think it is a good time for a new beginning, my son if away at college, and a new stage in my life is underway. It's official... we are now empty nesters! HOLY COW! How did that happen so fast!

I just finished a really big project I have been working on for about six weeks. I painted a HUGE heart. It's five feet all and wide. It's for the "Have a Heart" fundraiser at Elkhart General Hospital. They commissioned 20 artists to paint these hearts, and they will be displayed around the city of Elkhart. There will be a big gala on Valentines Day 2014 and the Hearts will be auctioned off. The hospital will be sending someone out to pick up the heart soon, they will take it and spray something on it to protect it, and then it will be displayed somewhere... I don't know where yet, but when it is in it's new temporary home, I will go and take photos and even get one of myself with it. In the mean-time... the photo at the top of this page is what the finished heart looks like right now.

  1. Thank you Helen. I'm really looking forward to seeing it where ever they display it until the Gala Auction.... and not in my garage... I think my husband will be happy that it is out of the garage too. It is pretty big. :)

  2. How wonderful, Deb! It is stunning and will look great wherever it is displayed. Looking forward to seeing you with it out in the world.
Sorry your blog acted up, but it is another bit of change in you life I guess.

  3. Thank you Jean, I've had so many complements on the heart, but I have a hard time looking past the flaws in it. I guess that is normal for the artist? Maybe I am just too hard on myself. It really was difficult to paint at times, areas almost impossible to get into. Before I got to working on the project, I thought these hearts might be a cool "canvas" to work on, and I could do a few and try to sell them at art shows... then when it arrived, and I started working on it, I said to myself, there is no way I am EVER going to do another one of these things! I know, I know, never say never..... but it would certainly be a very LONG time before I did another one of these!
